Basting the sandwich / Bâtir le sandwich

If there is one stage of the making of a quilt I do not like, and even detest, it is basting the sandwich. Since it is usually taped to the floor, it means spending quite a while in an uncomfortable position, which my back is sure to notice ...

S'il y a une étape de la réalisation d'un patch que je n'aime pas du tout, et même déteste, c'est quand il faut bâtir le sandwich. Puisque celui-ci est en général scotché au sol, cela implique de passer un long moment dans une position inconfortable, que mon dos n'apprécie pas...

First I secure the edge with quilter's safety pins

Je commence par sécuriser tout le tour avec des épingles à nourrice

And then I use a contrasting thread to baste the diagonals, then vertical and horizontal lines spaced about the width of my hand

Puis j'utilise un fil de couleur contrastante pour bâtir les diagonales, ensuite des lignes verticales et horizontales espacées d'à peu près la largeur de ma main

I use a frixion pen to draw the quilting lines

I like a background grid for the center medallion

J'utilise un stylo frixion pour tracer les lignes de matelassage

J'aime un quadrillage pour le médaillon central

Since the basting is such a tedious tasks, I take some breaks appliqueing my last border of orange peels

Le travail de bâti étant assez laborieux, je fais quelques pauses en travaillant à appliquer ma dernière bordure de peaux d'oranges

And now I need to see if I can improve my hand quilting technique.

Something to do with a spoon, but more about that later...

Et maintenant je vais voir si je peux améliorer ma technique de matelassage à la main.

Une façon de coudre qui implique l'utilisation d'une cuillère, mais nous verrons cela plus tard...
