Trial and error or the making of a new patchwork / Faire et défaire ou la création d'un nouveau patch

Sunday afternoons are usually when I have several hours of peace and quiet to indulge in my passion for quilting, so I try to make the most of it. Last Sunday, I realized I had run out of brown embroidery thread to finish my little flower pots. I was stuck with a whole afternoon ahead of me and nothing appealing to do with my hands...

Why not try this beautiful heart block by Pat Sloan for Splendid Sampler I had posted recently?

Le dimanche après-midi est mon après-midi de libre pour m'adonner à ma passion pour le patchwork sans être dérangée. Dimanche dernier, j'ai réalisé qu'il ne me restait plus de fil à broder marron pour terminer  mes petits pots de fleurs. Je me retrouvais donc avec tout un après-midi sans rien d'attrayant pour m'occuper les mains...

Pourquoi ne pas essayer le superbe bloc coeur de Pat Sloan pour Splendid Sampler que j'avais posté récemment?

I selected this beautiful fabric and started on cutting a few hearts

J'ai commencé par sélectionner ce très beau tissu et j'ai découpé quelques coeurs

I love the naive design of this one but have not yet found how to use it

J'adore le dessin naïf de celui-ci mais n'ai pas encore trouvé comment l'utiliser

I decided on a small square quilt and used small prints for the background

J'ai opté pour un petit patch carré et des tissus avec un petit imprimé pour le fond

The bold print of the fabric I chose did not work with these blocks, so decided on smaller prints in blues

L'imprimé du tissu que j'avais choisi n'allait pas sur ces blocs, j'ai donc choisi des tissus avec un design plus léger dans des tons de bleu

And reds.

 Much better now!

Et de rouge.

C'est beaucoup mieux maintenant!

How about if I made a table top with this small quilt? 

This layout will be much better then

Et si je faisais un petit dessus de table avec de patch?

Ce placement des coeurs sera bien mieux

Now the corner triangles in blue

Maintenant les triangles d'angle en bleu

And since they are going to form squares around the center block, I want two-tone triangles

Et comme ils vont former des carrés autour du bloc central, je veux deux tons de bleu pour les triangles

This technique is really easy to get perfect corner triangles

Cette technique est vraiment facile pour obtenir des triangles d'angle parfaits

Now how about a square in the square central block to echo the corner triangles?

Pourquoi ne pas utiliser un bloc carré dans le carré pour faire écho aux triangles d'angle?

I will want something interesting for the center square

Il faut que je trouve quelque chose qui attire l'oeil pour le carré central

I will confess to you this has taken me a long time... figuring out what to do with the bloc, choosing the right fabric and not hesitating to make changes, and still I would like to add something around those hearts... Creating does take time!

Je vous avoue que tout ceci m'a pris du temps... à commencer par trouver comment utiliser ce bloc, choisir les tissus qui s'harmonisent et ne pas hésiter à faire des changements, et j'aimerais ajouter quelque chose autour de ces coeurs... Créer prend du temps!
