Kimono Quilt Project / Patch de Kimonos

Now as though the end of the year was not busy enough, I have decided to help my daughter's class with the class project for the school gala in the spring. Every year, each class in primary school makes an artistic project, with the parents help, related to the country of the year chosen by the school.

This year, it is Japan. And since the only thing I know how to make that is a little artistic is a quilt... this is what I offered to do with the 18 little 5 year-olds and their teachers! 
And I thought, a kimono quilt, of course!

Et comme si la fin de l'année n'était pas suffisamment occupée, j'ai décidé d'offrir mon aide à la classe de ma fille pour le projet de gala qui aura lieu au printemps. Chaque année, chacune des classes de l'école primaire  et maternelle réalise un projet artistique, avec l'aide des parents, sur le thème du pays mis à l'honneur cette année-là.

Cette année, c'est le Japon. Et comme les seules réalisations tant soit peu artistiques que je sais faire sont les patchworks... c'est ce que j'ai offert de réaliser avec les 18 petits enfants de 5 ans et leur maîtresses.

Et j'ai pensé, un patchwork de kimonos, bien sûr!

I bought the two fabrics for the project in Houston and did a trial morning with my little girl using scraps

J'ai acheté les deux tissus pour ce projet à Houston et j'ai fait une matinée de répétition avec ma petite puce à partir de chutes de tissu

A very useful morning that showed me that little 5 year-olds can do almost all of the tasks, the tracing, the cutting of the fusible web, the ironing, the positioning EXCEPT cutting the fabric attached to the fusible web. Their hands are simply not strong enough.

Une matinée très utile qui m'a démontré que les petits de 5 ans peuvent faire presque toutes les étapes, le traçage, le découpage du papier, le repassage, le placement des morceaux SAUF le découpage du tissu fixé avec l'interface. Ils n'ont simplement pas assez de force dans les mains.

Now these four little kimonos are going to be assembled into a small quilt for my daughter to keep. 

I promised her she would piece it together by machine, with my help, so this is going to be a first this weekend

C'est quatre petits kimonos seront assemblés en un petit patch pour ma petite fille. J'ai promis qu'elle les piécerait elle-même à la machine, avec mon aide, ce sera donc notre grande première du weekend.
