Our little girl is turning 3 next Saturday and as her favorite fluffy toy is Peter Rabbit, I decided to make her a little pillow. She actually has three identical ones, or so we thought until she identified one of the three as her favorite!
Here is the model.

My husband contributed to the project by drawing the template since I am pretty much hopeless at drawing.

And here is the little cushion. I used pretty homespun fabric in soft colors and actually took the rabbit to the quilt shop to make sure I had the exact same colors.
Cute isn't it?

I wanted to make mitered corners and thus spent quite a bit of time on youtube to get the hang of it!
Here is the back for which I inverted the fabrics.

To make sure the cushion would be plump enough I simply added 1 inch to the size of my pillow insert (16 inches) and therefore cut my fabric at 17 inches. I used a 1/2 inch sewing margin. I cut strips of 2 1/2 inches for the flanges and when I had finished assembling the cushion I sewed by hand inside the edge of the flanges through both front and back around the four sides. I found I could not get accurate sewing on front and back by machine.

It was easy and pretty quick to make and I hope it will inspire you to make a special present for a little one.
All that is left to do is bake my daughter's favorite cake: Chocolate Brownie...
Of course part of the treat is preparing it with her as she loves to dip her little finger in the bowl...
