Creating a quilt with some vintage Provençal print / Créer un patch avec du tissu provençal vintage

I did not mention it, but I started teaching quilting in the fall to two friends of mine and, one of them, Isabelle, brought these prints she bought at a market in Provence years ago, and she wanted an idea on how to use them. 

Je ne l'ai pas mentionné, mais j'ai commencé à enseigner le patchwork à deux amies et l'une d'elles, Isabelle, m'a apporté ces imprimés qu'elle avait acheté il y a des années sur un marché en Provence, et elle voulait une idée pour les utiliser.

Trois imprimés, un avec quatre carrés comme ceux en haut de l'image, un rayé et un imprimé olives plus aéré.

Obviously, I thought the squares had to be the focal point

A l'évidence, les carrés devaient être le point central

We went to buy these two more prints to go with them

A light grey classical geometrical print and a dark grey flowery print with little hummingbirds

Nous sommes allées acheter ces deux imprimés pour ajouter un peu de variété

Un imprimé gris clair géométrique classique et un imprimé à fleurs et petits colibris gris foncé

5 prints altogether, 3 colors grey, green and cream

5 imprimés en tout, 3 couleurs, gris, vert et écru

Cutting the four squares identically was a challenge as the design was not really even

Découper les quatre carrés de façon identique a déjà été difficile car le dessin n'était pas vraiment centré

Next the geometrical light grey as the sashing

Then the first border with the stripy print

Ensuite l'imprimé géométrique gris clair en encadrement

Puis la première bordure avec l'imprimé à rayures

Cousu en onglet dans les angles

Mitered corners for the stripy print

A larger border with the light olive print

Une bordure plus large avec l'imprimé clair olives

And last the darker grey to make it a bit lively

Et enfin le gris foncé pour égayer un peu

I advised Isabelle on keeping the quilting very simple. Besides, this is her first quilt!

Her cat is definitely a fan of quilting...

J'ai conseillé à Isabelle de faire un matelassage très simple. Et puis, c'est son premier patch!

De toute évidence, son chat adore le patchwork...
