Sweet Ginger top completed!!! / Sweet Ginger enfin piécé et brodé!!!

I have been progressing at a snail's pace... so frustrating when so many things get in the way of one's true passion!!! 

However, I have managed at last to work on the last stages of my Sweet Ginger quilt.

J'ai le sentiment d'avoir avancé à la "vitesse" de l' escargot... c'est tellement frustrant quand tant de choses viennent faire obstacle à votre passion véritable!!!

Cependant, j'ai tout de même réussi à travailler sur les dernières étapes de mon patch Sweet Gingers.

The inner border that I chose in a straw yellow hue

La bordure intérieure que j'ai choisie jaune paille

I did not have enough flannel left to make the outer border in one fabric so decided on using some of my leftovers

Il ne me restait pas suffisamment de flanelle pour faire la bordure extérieure, j'ai donc décidé d'utiliser certains des restes de tissus

Mostly dark and soft colors and this flashy pink that brings it all out

Surtout des tissus foncés aux couleurs douces et ce rose vif qui fait vibrer la bordure

And then the buttons, which my little girl chose for each gingerbread man!

Puis les boutons, que ma petite fille a pris le soin de choisir pour chacun des bonhommes!

Some pretty wooden ones

Quelques jolis boutons en bois

Some metal ones

Certains en métal

And last embroider the eyes and mouth

Et enfin broder les yeux et la bouche

And Voilà!

This morning, Dallas woke up under a beautiful blanket of snow...

A very ephemeral winter scenery here in Texas for, with the sun, the snow will soon have disappeared.

My friend Lut has appliqueed those hearts on a pretty flowery print background to later make a quilt. I am sure it will be lovely.
I am still thinking about it... the idea of a pretty heart that I could hang on my chest of drawers every month, with its very own seasonal theme, is quite enticing...

Mon amie Lut a appliqué ces coeurs sur un joli imprimé à fleurs pour, à la fin de l'année, en faire un patch. Je suis certaine qu'il sera très beau.
Je ne sais pas encore si je vais me lancer dans ce projet... l'idée de suspendre au tiroir de ma commode un joli coeur avec son propre thème n'est pas sans attrait...

Adobe house in New Mexico / Maison en adobe au Nouveau Mexique

Last week we returned to Taos for a week of skiing and this time rented a beautiful adobe house in the valley. I wanted to share a few photographs with you of this home, so beautifully decorated by its owner.

La semaine dernière nous sommes retournés à Taos pour une semaine de ski et cette fois avons loué une superbe maison en adobe dans la vallée. Je voulais partager avec vous quelques photos de cette demeure; que la propriétaire a décorée si merveilleusement.

All the floors are mud floors, hence the pretty rugs throughout to protect them. The house is unbelievably comfortable, no difference in temperature anywhere, and the sun warms it up during the day. One hardly needs the heating system to be turned on!

A beautiful and energy efficient house that is in the spirit of "The Land of Enchantment" (New Mexico)

Tous les sols sont en terre battue et sont donc recouverts de jolis tapis pour les protéger. La maison est incroyablement confortable, il n'y a pas d'écart de température, et le soleil la réchauffe durant la journée. On a à peine besoin d'uliser le système de chauffage!

Une maison superbe et écologique qui est dans l'esprit de l'état du Nouveau Mexique, "The Land of Enchantment".

Some sewing, some quilting / De la couture, du matelassage

Our little girl turned 5 this month and when asked what she wanted, she said she wanted a sleeping bag for her Peter rabbit. So I made this little pink and blue one with a little pillow. It took me more time to think about the different stages of its realization than to actually sew it!

Notre petit puce a eu 5 ans ce mois-ci et quand je lui ai demandé ce qu'elle voulait comme cadeau, elle m'a dit qu'elle voulait un sac de couchage pour son lapin. J'ai donc fait ce petit sac de couchage rose et bleu avec un petit oreiller intégré. Cela m'a pris plus de temps pour réfléchir à sa réalisation que pour le coudre!

If you remember, for her 3rd birthday I made her this pillow with an appliqué of her rabbit.

Si vous vous souvenez, pour ses 3 ans je lui ai fait ce coussin avec son lapin en appliqué.

I am still working on hand quilting my Scandinavian Heart Quilt. It is relaxing but it does take a long time and I need to apply myself to have a regular time set for this task, if I want to see the end of it!

Je continue à quilter à la main mon patch Coeurs Scandinaves. C'est très relaxant mais cela prend beaucoup de temps et il me faut vraiment établir un horaire de travail régulier pour cette tâche, si je veux en voir la fin!

I am quilting simple straight lines on the strips around the central block.

Je matelasse avec de simple lignes les bandes encadrant le bloc central.

On the back you can see better the hand quilting and how much I have done.

Au dos on voit mieux le travail de matelassage et le travail accompli.

I am, at the same time, trying to finish piecing the Sweet Gingers flannel quilt. More about that later...

En même temps, je travaille à terminer le piécé du patch en flanelle Sweet Gingers. A suivre...

More hearts... / Encore des coeurs...

I have not been able to post for a while... Life does not always run smoothly, especially with children, and the priority goes to them, obviously.

I am therefore a bit behind to show you some table sets I made years ago for Valentine's day. I bought them ready made, they are in white linen, and I simply embroidered them with different heart designs.

Je n'ai pu poster de message depuis quelques temps... La vie n'est pas toujours un long fleuve tranquille, surtout avec des enfants, et bien sûr, ce sont eux qui ont priorité.

Je suis donc quelque peu en retard pour vous montrer des sets de table que j'ai fait il y a des années pour la Saint Valentin. J'ai acheté les sets déjà faits en lin blanc et j'ai simplement brodé différents motifs de coeurs.

J'en ai fait huit avec deux coeurs au point de croix dans deux angles opposés

With four different designs

Avec quatre motifs différents

They were pretty quick to make and look really great on a table with a few added accessories in the same theme.

Il a été assez rapide de les broder et rendent vraiment bien sur une table avec quelques accessoires dans le même thème.

Besides, one is always pretty proud to set a table with handmade decorations!

Et puis on est toujours assez fière de dresser une table avec de la déco fait main!

Sweet Gingers Quilt / Patch Sweet Gingers

This Sweet Gingers quilt requires more work than I had expected!!! I believe I had underestimated the embroidery stage...

Ce patch Sweet Gingers prend beaucoup plus de temps que je ne l'escomptais!!! Je crois bien avoir sous estimé le travail de broderie...

I have managed to frame each heart block

J'ai tout de même réussi à encadrer chaque bloc coeur

Then I dressed the little gingerbread men

Ensuite j'ai habillé les petits bonhommes en pain d'épices

 

I blanket stitched all around in brown

J'ai fait un point de feston tout autour en brun

In white for the brown gingerbread men

En blanc pour les bonhommes marron

And now I need to do the same around each piece of red flannel

Et maintenant je dois faire de même tout autour de chaque pièce de flanelle rouge

I use two threads of embroidery floss. It shows, but not too much, and it slides easily through the flannel.

These little pieces of red flannel are going to take me ages...

J'utilise deux brins de mouliné. Cela ressort suffisamment et le coton glisse aisément à travers la flanelle. 

Ces petits morceaux de flanelle rouge vont me prendre un temps fou...
